These genes have provided us with diagnostic and drug targets rooted in the basic biology of human disease, including genetic risk variants that form the basis for DNA-based diagnostic tests to enable a better understanding of individual predisposition to disease and the implementation of more effective strategies of disease prevention.

Because our gene discovery work underpins both diagnostic and drug discovery, we believe that our DNA-based diagnostic tests may also enable doctors to identify individuals likely to derive particular benefit from deCODE's developmental compounds or from existing medications.
